Few Diet members are as passionate and engaged in this area of policy as the former actress, artist, and business executive Junko Mihara. Since being elected to the Diet in 2010, Mihara has taken the lead in the formulation of health policies in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). She is one of the key sponsors of the vaccinations bill presented to the current Diet session and is taking an active role in the formulation of new government measures to tackle cervical cancer. Mihara shared with us her views of what the key health policy prioirities of the new government should be, the role of the LDP Policy Research Council, and her thoughts on the first months of LDP rule.
