Following the abrupt dissolution of the Diet by PM Abe just two months after the formation of his new Cabinet, Japan is heading to the polls for the third time in three years. This time around, the voters are preparing to give their verdict on Abenomics and, ultimately, decide on PM Abe's political future.

At our Election Special briefing and discussion on 11 December, three days ahead of the vote, Jakob Edberg and Philip Howard from GR Japan were joined by an expert panel to discuss the latest polling and forecasts, as well as to analyze the implications of the outcome for the business climate and the economic prospects of the country over the next years. Dr. Lully Miura, JSPS Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo and Tsuneo Watanabe, Senior Fellow and Director of Policy Research at The Tokyo Foundation analyzed the elections from their respective expertise. The event was followed by light reception and the discussions proceeded over some refreshments and drinks.
